Entry of food and drink

At Rototom Sunsplash, gastronomy occupies a prominent place and is inevitably an important service.

Although the music is a significant part of the festival, the Rototom Sunsplash offers other experiences that are highly valued by the public, such as those offered by the gastronomic services.

The prominance of gastronomy is motivated not only by the fact that festivals, by their very nature, offer a wide range of activities in addition to music, but also by Rototom Sunsplash's obligation to guarantee the safety, health and hygiene of the attendees.

The regulation of public spectacles has been transferred to the Autonomous Communities, which have established their respective rules with regards to, among other matters, the right of admission, which refers to the event organiser's power to determine the conditions of access.

As the OCU (Organisation of Consumers and Users) itself recognises, no regional regulation prevents festivals from including in their conditions for entry the prohibition to enter with food and drink. Moreover, many Autonomous Communities already expressly contemplate the right to prohibit entry with food and drink purchased outside the venue.

Notwithstanding the above, this is Rototom Sunsplash's policy on the matter:
  1. Rototom Sunsplash allows you to leave the venue and subsequently enter at any time and free of charge, so the promoter cannot be considered to be forcing you to buy food and drink inside.
  2. Rototom Sunsplash has free drinking water fountains, both in the venue and the campsite.
  3. Rototom Sunsplash allows entry with water into the festival grounds as long as, for the safety of the attendees, it is not in a container considered to be a blunt or dangerous object by the private security staff.
  4. Rototom Sunsplash allows entry with special food for those who suffer from any food intolerance or allergy. In order to corroborate this situation, the private security staff will ask the attendee to show a certificate or document accrediting such intolerance or allergy. In other words, no collection, registration or filing out of documentation is carried out, simply a mere exhibition (article 30 of Law 5/2014, of 4 April).
  5. Access is permitted with foodstuffs such as a sandwich (or similar) in hand, on the understanding that it is intended for immediate consumption.
  6. In order to ensure food safety and the prohibition of the consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors, access with alcoholic beverages or bags full of food is especially prohibited.
